Abuse of Iraqi Prisoners

We're talking about a major faux-pas here: hundreds and hundreds of photos of American soldiers subjecting Iraqi prisoners to all kinds of demeaning treatment, from being forced to wear women's panties on their heads (humiliating to any man, but particularly to a Muslim) to performing gross homosexual poses and acts on their fellow prisoners. It's a big deal. We've got egg all over our collective face.

Enough said.

Let's concentrate on with what we're actually doing over there! There are many thousands of American troops who have had nothing to do with any of this debacle. They're over there risking their lives in performing their duties each day. Let's quit finger-pointing about whether or not military officials should have known, should have stopped the abuse, whatever! The military has a grand tradition of handling the prosecution of its own criminals; let them do their thing! Of course, the media would have to end its feeding frenzy, and that would be no fun for them, would it?

As to whether Rumsfeld should be forced to resign over this, let's just say that would make just about as much sense as a corporate executive being kicked out the door because the janitors were terrorizing the late-night security guards. Yeah, right...
